WHY BE A STUDENT WITH CCPartners?

CCPartners views the student program as the primary development ground for our future lawyer colleagues. At CCPartners our student colleagues deepen their knowledge in the substantive areas of labour and employment law, while developing an awareness of the practical, business aspects of a legal practice. Students will gain this knowledge and experience by researching a variety of topics in the field, and using their own research while drafting pleadings and opinions of law, and contributing to the Clawbie Award Winning Employers' Edge blog and Lawyers for Employers podcast.

There is WAY MORE to Labour and Employment law than you might realize.  CCPartners advises its employer clients in the private and public sectors, across all industries, on all aspects of workplace law.  From hiring to firing, from discipline to policy, we do it all.  Our employment law clients look to us to help provide guidance with individual employees, while our labour law clients rely on our expertise in navigating relations with unions – including in the highly specialized construction industry.  Factor in all of the regulatory obligations facing employers, and you might never get the same assignment twice!  Read more about CCPartners’ services here.

CCPartners gets students out of the library! Let’s face it, law school doesn’t provide the practical experience that you want. That’s why CCPartners is committed to having students accompany and assist lawyers in meetings and hearings, getting you involved in trial and hearing preparation, and having you make other appearances before courts and tribunals. While these experiences allow our student colleagues to “learn while doing,” our lawyers also use these situations to introduce students to the firm’s clients, other lawyers in the field, and court and tribunal officials.

CCPartners takes its continuing legal education (“CLE”) and mentoring activities seriously. Our students undertake an initial orientation, and receive ongoing regular feedback. The firm participates in CLE programming, conducted by outside counsel and speakers, and the firm’s lawyers themselves.

Are you ready to take the next step?

If the CCPartners student experience interests you, consult your school’s recruiting services and submit an application package for the 2L Summer Student Term to Mike MacLellan at mmaclellan@ccpartners.ca or through viLawPortal.  Please include: A well-written Cover Letter, Resumé, Law School and Undergraduate Transcripts, and a list of your Anticipated Upper Year Courses.
